Celebrating National Inventors Month

Did you know that May is National Inventors Month? This annual celebration was created to promote “the positive image of inventors and the real contributions they give to this world.”

The work of inventors has shaped our society, fueled our economy and improved our lives. While it’s fitting to devote not just a day but an entire month to recognizing such accomplishments, at the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), we celebrate world-changing innovators every day of the year through our museum, events and education programs.

Honoring Accomplished Inventors

More than 560 inventors have been named NIHF Inductees, and we welcome a new class every year. Earlier this month, we held our 47th Annual Induction Ceremony — the Greatest Celebration of American Innovation™. Join us in applauding the accomplishments of our newest Inductees.

At the NIHF Museum, each of our Inductees is represented in our Gallery of Icons™, and their accomplishments can be seen in our interactive exhibits. With free admission and family-friendly fun just outside Washington, D.C., this National Monument to Innovation® is designed to inspire the inventor in everyone. National Inventors Month is the perfect time to start planning your visit.

Inspiring the Next Generation

Great inventors are not only celebrated through our Induction and NIHF Museum — they make a direct impact on the next generation through our education programs and competitions.

The education staff at NIHF works closely with our Inductees to develop new program curricula every year. They infuse the lessons of these great inventors into programs that cover PreK thorough Professional Development, including our flagship Camp Invention® program. Empowering people of all ages in communities across the country, these programs have impacted 2.2 million children, educators, college students and inventors.

Beyond their influence on our education programs, NIHF Inductees are also involved in our Collegiate Inventors Competition®, serving as judges and providing valuable feedback for emerging innovators. This competition recognizes and rewards college students who could be the next inventors to change the world. Visit our website to learn more.
