3 Ways to Celebrate Dads This Father’s Day

Parents are incredible role models. They teach us strength, persistence and patience, and empower us to become the best versions of ourselves. This Father’s Day is a great opportunity to do something special for the fathers in our lives by reminding them how much we appreciate their love and support.

To get you started, we’ve gathered three creative ideas designed to help kids celebrate great dads while also putting their STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics) skills to the test!

Design a Homemade Card

Feeling creative? Help your child create their very own masterpiece — a one-of-a-kind, heartfelt card. For the front of the card, encourage your child to think about what makes their father, grandfather or other special person so super, and then draw them as a real-life superhero.

What is their greatest strength? How do they pop up to save the day? What is something they do to make you smile? As your child ponders these questions, ask them to pull elements of their answers into the heroic portrait of their dad. Then, finish off the card with a message of gratitude, and don’t forget to wish them a super Father’s Day!

Make a Variety of His Favorite Snacks

Ask your child to think of all the dishes that they love to share with their dad. Do they love splitting a sundae with all kinds of toppings or is a savory sandwich more their style? Once you’ve thought of all their favorite treats, work together to create a sampler platter to snack on throughout the evening. You can even use our STEM activity blog to make homemade sandwich mixture and learn the pickling process!

After you present your snack spread, use it to fuel the family for a fun game night! Food may bring people together, but the real gift for Dad is spending quality time with loved ones.

Picture the Perfect Day Together

Whether your child sees the fathers in their lives every day, or they live states away, a photo keepsake is sure to remind great dads that you’re thinking of them all year long. Start by selecting your favorite family photo or a picture of a meaningful memory. Then, brainstorm innovative ways to decorate a frame that can be proudly displayed in their room or office, or even on the fridge.

To personalize a standard frame, you may want to try experimenting with different art media. Could you use paper and glue to make a colorful collage for the frame? Would puffy paint add the perfect dimension or fun texture? Do you have letter beads to spell out a special message? As you think of all the ways you can bring your imaginative ideas to life, don’t be intimidated to try new things. Remember, you don’t have to be the world’s greatest artist to make something amazing — it is the thought and love behind a gift that makes it so special for the one who receives it!
