Launch Into an Out-of-This-World STEM Experience in Spacecation

Our education team is committed to inspiring kids across the country. Their passion for education and innovation means that each year, your child has the opportunity to enjoy an all-new experience at Camp Invention®, the K-6 summer STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program from the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF). Our extensive curriculum development and piloting process ensures that each summer offers fun, engaging and action-packed activities crafted to inspire young creators and innovators.

Spacecation is one of four all-new activities in our 2022 Camp Invention program, Explore! Read below to find out what your curious explorer can look forward to this summer.

Explore the Secrets of Space

In this exciting activity, children venture beyond the Earth’s atmosphere to take on science-rich activities and challenges inspired by the latest discoveries on distant planets, asteroids and moons. To prepare themselves for space travel, they build their own Spacepack and a fully functional Astro-Arm device they can use to explore and mine asteroids.

Throughout this weeklong adventure, campers experience the cool flow of an ice volcano, investigate the mystery behind why Europa (one of Jupiter’s moon) glows, and celebrate their many accomplishments by having a galactic pizza party—Cosmic BBQ Gummy Worm Pizza, anyone? Inspired by real space exploration technology, children will have so much fun, they won’t even realize how much they’re strengthening their science and engineering muscles!

See the Innovation Mindset Difference

All Camp Invention activities help kids build the Innovation Mindset, a set of nine skills and traits that have been shown to unlock creative potential. Developed in collaboration with real inventors — our revolutionary Hall of Famers — your child can use and benefit from this mindset throughout their lives.

The 2022 Spacecation experience focuses on these components of the Innovation Mindset:

STEM: Campers get hands-on with STEM concepts as they explore chemical reactions and construct space tools. Throughout the week, children collect scientific and mathematical data to help them engage with a variety of challenges.

Persistence: One of the most important skills that children can develop from a young age is the ability to persist and not give up. While designing and using their Astro-Arm device, campers are able to practice persistence by making iterative improvements to complete daily missions.

Innovation: Throughout the week, campers are challenged to use their imagination and are inspired by lessons and stories from our Hall of Famers to create their own awesome, space-related inventions. The innovations that children experience here can translate far beyond the summer months and have a positive impact on academic success during the school year.
