Build Your Big Ideas With Prototyping Studio
Every year, the National Inventors Hall of Fame® inspires curious kids to become capable creators through Camp Invention®, a hands-on STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) camp designed for grades K-6. This summer’s program gives kids a chance to try hands-on creative problem solving, grow their confidence and collaborate with friends.
Prototyping Studio™ is one of four never-before-seen experiences in the 2024 Camp Invention program, Illuminate! Keep reading to discover how your child will bring their imagination to life through interactive prototyping this summer, learning that anyone can invent anything, anywhere!
Build Prototypes, Confidence and Persistence
In this innovative experience, campers will star as contestants on Prototyping Studio, a game show where they’ll embark on a creative journey to uncover the ultimate place to invent. Along the way, they’ll create rapid prototypes – or initial models of their inventions – as they find inspiration from Our Nation’s Greatest Innovators™, National Inventors Hall of Fame Inductees!
Equipped with a toolbox and some useful tools, your child will explore a variety of places, like those found in our homes, where many world-famous inventors began prototyping their creations. From the basement to the kitchen, the garage and even the bathroom, campers will work together with friends to generate new ideas and bring them to life in a series of exciting prototyping challenges.
After sketching their concept and transforming it into a working prototype, your camper will fill out a mock patent application, learning how to protect their unique ideas through the intellectual property system. They’ll build confidence when they share their ideas with their fellow campers and gain persistence as they make improvements to their prototypes. They’ll win the game by learning that the ultimate place to invent is anywhere they choose — and they’ll take their toolbox home to keep on making whatever they can dream up!

- Design Thinking: By moving from space to space in a simulated game show, your child will identify problems and seek solutions. As they focus on the people who will use the things they create, they will learn how to apply empathy to address the needs of others.
- Innovation: Your child will engage in hands-on challenges to solve real-world problems, explore the places, tools and techniques used by accomplished innovators, and discover what innovation can look like in their own life.
