Behind the NIHF Scenes

Protect the Environment in Rescue Squad

Each summer our experienced education team at the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF) reinvents the curriculum of our flagship STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) program, Camp Invention®. Throughout our 20-month curriculum development process, we create activities to inspire the next generation of innovators.

Rescue Squad™ is one of four modules in our all-new 2020 Camp Invention program, Elevate. Read below to learn what your child can look forward to in this exciting new program.

Go green

In Rescue Squad, students are challenged with solving real-world challenges in habitats across the country. To accomplish this, they construct prototypes, explore energy conservation and discover how to eliminate pollution and protect wildlife. Throughout the week, campers will experiment with ways to purify contaminated water, work together to defend vulnerable habitats and learn how parachutes are used to safely transport animals.

Research has shown that today’s students are becoming increasingly interested in environmental issues. Because of this, we believe these activities will help children continue developing their passion for the world around them.

At the end of the week, children will take home their very own customized LED flowers, as well as the confidence to continue applying their creative problem-solving skills well into the future.

Develop an environmental mindset

Just as many of our NIHF Inductees have dedicated their professional careers to inventing solutions to improve the environment, we continue to promote the importance of sustainability. Our education team has made an intentional decision to use more sustainable materials in all our camp activities. We remain committed to reducing single-use plastics and reusing materials each year when possible.

“NIHF has always embraced the idea of reduce, reuse and recycle. We are so excited to take it a step further by making intentional choices to reduce single-use plastics at camp and replace them with more sustainable items. This is in line with our values as a company and with material-use trends worldwide. Children especially care about helping to protect the planet and we are proud to showcase this in our 2020 curriculum.”
