Introduce Your Kids to Elevate – Camp Invention’s New Curriculum
As the product of our 20-month development process led by our team of education experts, the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF) is proud to introduce Elevate, our brand-new program for the 2020 Camp Invention® season! As you begin to research summer educational programs that build your child’s confidence and develop their creativity, we invite you to learn what students can look forward to this summer during a fun-filled week at Camp Invention:
Camp Invention Flight Lab™
Using their very own take-home robot, in this module your child’s imagination will soar as they learn all about the principles of flight. Each day, students engage in activities and challenges that embrace their creative thinking skills by exploring flight concepts using hand-copters, rockets, paper planes and gliders. Using upcycled materials, campers transform into pilots as they construct cityscapes to maneuver their planes around. By experiencing the science of flight in a hands-on way, children are more likely to continue making connections to science at home and when they return to school in the fall.
Design Thinking Project™
In Design Thinking Project, children learn that their ideas have value by transforming their ideas into products. Using our inventor informed Design Thinking Process, campers brainstorm and collaborate with each other to solve real-world problems, or make existing technology even better. After a problem is identified, campers sketch their idea, construct prototypes and design their very own logo! In this fun and interactive module, students will learn how to protect their unique creations using the power of intellectual property. With this understanding, your child will begin to develop the confidence to pursue their creative ideas from start to finish.
Rescue Squad™
The Rescue Squad activity explores environmental science in a fun and accessible way by inviting students to construct prototypes, explore energy conservation and eliminate pollution. Throughout the week, children will feel empowered as they experiment with different ways to clean contaminated water, brainstorm different strategies to best protect vulnerable habitats and discover how parachutes are used to safely transport animals out of harm’s way. The green solutions that children learn throughout the week are not limited to the classroom, and their newly developed environmental mindset can be applied both at home and in their everyday lives.
Camp Invention Champions™
In this active, high-energy module, children discover the game-changing inventors behind some of their favorite sports. By drawing inspiration from these iconic figures and using creative problem-solving skills, campers are able to create and invent their very own games and specialized equipment. Participants will also have the opportunity to trade special inventor playing cards with each other in order to assemble their own “Inventor Dream Team.” Additionally, your child will design and construct the sports complex of their dreams that they can take home and work on long after Camp Invention is over.
