Don’t let your child’s summer slip away without the rush of joy that comes from accomplishing goals that make them both excited and proud! As days grow longer, weather gets warmer and the sunshine welcomes us all to get outside and explore, take advantage of this time to encourage your child to have fun with hands-on, real-life learning. Their accomplishments are limited only by their creativity, but we’ve put together three guiding prompts to help you and child work together to get their summer goal list!
1. Grow Confident in an Interesting Skill
Ask your child if there is an activity they’ve always wanted to try, or an interest that they would like to explore more in depth? Summer is the perfect time to encourage them to practice their passions and learn more about what interests them! They could pick up painting and explore color theory, try their hand at baking and see chemistry in action, or beat their best 1-mile run time and uncover the physics of how we move. The important thing is to allow them to learn at their own pace while having fun — then they’re sure to end the summer with a new skill and confidence that can only be earned with hard work!
2. Find the Answer to a Curious Question
Does your child ask a lot of inquisitive questions? Perhaps they want to know how fish breathe underwater, why sugar tastes sweet or how airplanes stay in the sky. Take time this summer to solve a great mystery together! Through research, observation or even experimentation, let their curiosity lead the way as you explore their question to teach them something new. The answer may surprise you both – and they’ll have a new fun fact to share when school returns in the fall!
3. Explore With Hands-On STEM
School is out, but that doesn’t mean learning ends! Your child has made a lot of progress over the last school year, help them keep that momentum over summer break. They can keep their skills (and build even more!) by making it a priority to explore exciting, hands-on challenges. Whether it’s a trip to your local zoo or art museum, or a week at Camp Invention®, get them out of their comfort zone and make learning fun.
At Camp Invention, there’s always something new to discover as each year brings four new experiences, with varying themes, challenges, lessons and take-home items. Every day, campers stretch their imagination as they build, create and test alongside new friends! Summer should be a season of fun, and camp proves that learning something new doesn’t have to feel scary or boring. Bonus – they’ll be a step ahead when it’s time to head back to class!
Go for It!
The most important step to achieving a goal is the first – be courageous enough to try! We cannot wait to see all that your curious kid accomplishes this summer and beyond. Their innovative journey is not limited to a season, so be sure to check back in to our blog for new ways to explore throughout the year.
