Each summer, the National Inventors Hall of Fame® brings STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) learning to life at Camp Invention®. Through high-energy experiences and fun, hands-on challenges, kids in grades K-6 collaborate, create and build the skills and persistence they need to be confident problem solvers.
In the Game™ is one of four all-new, interactive experiences in the 2024 Camp Invention program, Illuminate! Read on to find out how your child will team up with friends, learn the science behind their favorite sports and become a champion of innovative thinking this summer!
Jump Into Athletic Innovation
In this all-star experience, campers will gear up to tackle athletics, design and invention. They’ll practice being team players as they start each day with a huddle to receive creative challenges and get their big ideas rolling.
Your camper will level up their design thinking by creating their very own light-up ball game. They’ll get to personalize their game board, then explore fun with physics fundamentals by experimenting with inclined planes and gravitational pull. To find inspiration to invent their own unique game ball, they’ll investigate the science of sports ball design, learning about the different features and specialized materials of footballs, basketballs, tennis balls and more. Your child also will study other sports equipment before prototyping their own.
Your camper also will dive into entrepreneurship as they give their customized game a name and a logo, then learn how to protect their brand with the power of intellectual property. At the end of the week, each camper will be inducted into the Game of Fame for their award-winning skills, and they’ll take their awesome game and ball home to keep on scoring!
Build a Powerful Mindset
Camp Invention is designed to spark curiosity and discovery, helping your child unlock their creative potential. Each experience will help them build what we call the I Can Invent® Mindset, which is made up of essential skills and traits that will help your child thrive, now and in the future.
In the Game focuses on the following components of the I Can Invent Mindset, helping your camper grow their abilities in these areas:
- STEM: Your child will explore physics and materials science as they examine how sports balls are made, and then they’ll put physics into action by playing with their own board games. These experiences help make STEM concepts approachable, relatable and fun for every kid.
- Entrepreneurship: By building a brand around their game, your child will start to learn basic entrepreneurship principles. They’ll even look at a target audience for their product, to help them consider what consumers in different markets might look like.
- Intellectual Property: As your child comes up with a name and designs a logo for their one-of-a-kind game, they’ll learn about the power of intellectual property and begin to feel empowered to protect their identity and rights as a creator.
